Independent Christian Churches

Servant Solutions is honored to be the retirement plan provider of numerous churches affiliated with the Independent Christian Church and Churches of Christ movement. Known as the Restoration Movement, or sometimes the Stone Campbell Movement, congregations who claim this identity as their heritage are able to collaborate with Servant Solutions.

The relationship between the Churches of God and the Independent Christian Churches deepened in the 1980’s and 1990’s when representatives from the two traditions engaged in dialogue concerning the commonality of our theology and methodology. This open forum met for many consecutive years as the two groups of believers discussed the importance of their shared biblical values. Barry Callen of the Church of God and James North of Cincinnati Christian University co-wrote the history of this dialogue in their book, Coming Together in Christ. It signified an historic agreement around the mutual plea for Christian unity.

With over 70 years of experience, Servant Solutions is uniquely qualified, and we will work together to administer the details of your account.  We focus on Improving Financial Security for Servants of the Church, so they are freed in new ways to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

What is the relationship between Servant Solutions and the Independent Christian Church?

Servant Solutions was birthed as an agency endorsed by the Church of God (Anderson, Indiana) to serve independent churches of the Church of God Movement and other independent churches such as the Independent Christian Church Movement. Today, Servant Solutions serves numerous Independent Christian Churches. The Church of God (Anderson, Indiana) Movement has a strong relationship with the Independent Christian Churches and even had dialogue among leadership for a ten-year period (1985-95) about ways to do cooperative ministry.

What is the Independent Christian Church?

The Independent Christian Church Movement is sometimes referred to as the “Christian Churches,” and includes thousands of independent churches that identify with the Stone-Campbell Movement. The Independent Christian Churches who helped form this Restoration movement decided to set aside denominational labels, political ties, and creeds and to come together as simply the Church, and as “Christians only.” Instead of looking to European leadership in the Church, the Independent Christian Churches established their own leadership to begin the formation of what the Church is today.

What was the Restoration Movement?

The Restoration Movement became prominent in the early 19th century, where its pioneers were seeking a new unification of all Christians in a single body patterned after the church of the New Testament. They sought to unify Christians rather than divide them. Of the leaders of the movement, a few stand out still today. Three ministers, Thomas Campbell, his son Alexander Campbell, and Barton W. Stone were three of the most influential leaders in the movement. Today there are a few groups that stem from the Restoration Movement, and one of them includes the Independent Christian Church.

What is the North American Christian Convention?

The North American Christian Convention (NACC) was a major gathering of Independent Christian Church leaders annually that was organized and conducted to inspire, equip, and train leaders to be more impactful in their respective places of ministry. More recently, this annual event has been reorganized under the banner of Spire, or the Spire network (spire.network).  Spire functions to be more than a conference or a collection of resources. They’ve developed a ministry platform designed to be the hub where ministry leaders, who inspire a movement of growing churches, can go to be encouraged and equipped to continue.

What does it mean to be an independent church?

An independent church, in the context of the Independent Christian Church and also the Churches of Christ, is not tethered or affiliated with a denominational structure. Hence, each church is free to pursue ministry and impact within their community and beyond as motivated by the Holy Spirit. An independent church is free to pursue its own leadership’s sense of the direction in which God wants the church to move

What does Servant Solutions offer to employees of the Independent Christian Church?

Servant Solutions, a not for profit ministry, provides retirement plans for churches and financial planning for church workers. Servant Solutions is uniquely positioned, as a result of the long history of a strong relationship, to provide retirement and financial planning services for ministers and lay workers who are employed by independent Christian Churches.

How does the process of becoming a member with Servant Solutions work?

Becoming a member or participating with Servant Solutions is done through the “employer.”  As a church becomes an approved employer with Servant Solutions, which is a simple process, then employees of the church can begin to participate in our plans. Servant Solutions recommends that the church, as the employer, provide a benefit through making employer contributions to strengthen the employee’s financial future. Church employees are also encouraged to make contributions of their own.

Why should I partner with Servant Solutions?

Partnering with Servant Solutions is a perfect match for independent churches. With Servant Solutions’ expertise as a church status plan, a level of expertise and understanding of churches, and how to best care for church employees and their financial future is an important benefit.  Also, as a not-for-profit ministry, industry benchmarking of costs shows that Servant Solutions all-in expenses run approximately one-half of the industry average! That can help employees increase the value of their retirement balance significantly.

Servant Solutions comes with my highest recommendation I can provide. Their reputation for service and support is just what churches need these days to navigate the ever-changing retirement laws and policies. I am convinced that they can help you get started and flourish as you onboard with them.”
